LNG tanker runs aground off Nigeria

A liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tanker has run aground off Nigeria after taking on a cargo at the country’s Bonny Island export plant as reported by renowned media news outlet Reuters.

The Vessel with a capacity of 165,000-cubic-metres was reported to have ran aground while trying to leave the port for its voyage to south Korea. The Magellan Spirit tanker is owned by Teekay LNG Partners,

The tanker is however not expected to disrupt shipping activities in and out of Bonny Island’s export plant as it was not blocking the shipping channel,

But it remains to be seen how the cargo’s owner, trading house Vitol, will be affected. Traders said that Vitol might have to seek a replacement cargo on the open market.
