Togo ups the competition by ordering 10 additional RTGs

     Togo’s Lome Container Terminal is reported to have awarded konecranes (a renowned container handling equipment manufacture) a contract to supply 10 additional RTGs (Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes) identical to 12 RTGs already delivered in 2014. The delivery of these all electric powered  units is  scheduled for end of 2015 to 2016 bringing to a total 22 the number of RTGs ordered by the terminal from last year to present.

   The “Port Strategy” a renowned maritime journal reports that , the RTGs have a lifting capacity of 40 tons stacking 1 over 6 high containers high and 7 plus track lane wide. They are equipped with Konecranes new smarter cabin technology which is designed to improve ergonomics, visibility and safety.

  The cranes are supposed to come with certain features like auto steering and a TOS (Terminal Operating System) connected container positioning system.

 This developments and modernization of ports and terminals across the sub region is very much needed to improve the supply chain efficiency in the region.
