China Harbour Engineering Company to construct USD 600m Atuabo Port In Ghana

 After parliamentary Approval in july  2014, The Atuabo free port project has received a major boost with the signing of a contract between china harbour engineering company and the Atuabo Free Port company.

   The 600 million dollar project is expected to commence within the last quarter of this year , It will provide a 18.5m deep channel and three quays of varying depths from 16.5m , 12m and 9m, clear activity zones including offshore logistics, subsea fabrication, rig and vessel repair, business technology park and general business support infrastructure and is expected to create over a 1000 jobs during the construction stages.

  Mr. Seth Tekper ,the minister of finance mentioned at the ceremony in Beijing that, the joint venture agreement which included a 10 per cent free carry shareholding for the Government of Ghana and 35 per cent shares to be owned by State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) without the government having to guarantee the financing of the $600 million free port project was indeed a very unique joint venture model with the government.    The free port would serve as a dedicated Oil and gas port serving the country,s off shore oil industry and also help the country stay very comptitive in the oil business.
